Tips for making a Keepsake Soundtrack
A Keepsake Soundtrack captures the songs that have shaped your life and supports brain engagement now and in the future! Board certified music therapist Amanda Marcum shares tips for creating a personalized playlist.
- Music from a person’s teenage years to their mid-20s is a great place to start your playlist. Research shows people are more likely to remember it, even with brain change.
- Draw from big and emotional milestones, like the music at your wedding, songs you sang to your children or songs associated with military service.
- Songs you played on repeat at any time in your life, such as a favorite workout song or vacation song you listened to again and again.
- If spiritual music touches you, religious songs and hymns can be very powerful.
- Not every song has to be “happy;” it’s OK to express the full emotional spectrum.
- Include a mix of fast and slow songs; think about different tempos.
- Aim for at least 20 minutes of music.
